Stone Rugby Club capture impressive duo

Staffordshire outfit Stone Rugby Club has strengthened its men’s first team roster further by capturing the signatures of two impressive players.

The latest recruit through the door is centre Danny Duggan. Described as a “combative runner and a real threat,” he has played for Macclesfield at national-league level before featuring for Stoke-on-Trent Rugby Club where he played alongside Stone head coach Tom Hughes.

Hughes said he was “really excited by this signing.” Duggan also offers versatility to the side as he can play at either centre or as a winger.

The club also revealed that prop Ryan Sturland will also be donning a Stone jersey in the 2020/21 campaign.

The club said it is “really lucky” to have attained the services of the 5ft 9′ powerhouse.

Stone will be hoping to reach new heights next season with a plethora of new signings

Elsewhere, in the women’s first team – Stone Roses – two key personnel have committed their futures to the club.

Stalwart Kate Meredith, who help set up the mini and junior section at Stone and also helped establish the Roses, has signed on again for next year.

A spokesperson for the club said that the flanker “works tirelessly behind the scenes for the club in so many ways” and that “it would be fair to say this lady isn’t just a valued Rose but so, so much more.”

Players Player of the Year for last season Megan Kent has also pledged to play for the Roses for the upcoming campaign.

The centre only picked up a competitive rugby ball for the first time six months ago but her performances have impressed many at the club.
